this is the IP address od the server/s you with to use for
namje resolution.
for example, when you sign up for an internet accoun with
an isp you will either set your machine to get an
automatically assigned IP address [DHCP] and this will
include a DNS address [use command prompt and
type "ipconfig /all" to see this IP information]. or you
isp may give you a static IP address in which case they
will also tell you the other settings like the DNS servers
IP addresses.
DNS simply resolves IP addresses from host names so if you
surf the net and use a URL like
www.microsoft.com, your PC
knows to run off to a DNS server and ask it what this
means. the DNS server will reply with a IP address that
your PC will then use to find the web site. it is a bit
more complicated than that, but I think that is all you
need to know to understand it better.
