I have a workstation with all static network info. The
DSN search is 1) our internal, 2) our isp primary, 3) our
isp secondary. Usually all works great, BUT occasionally,
IE cann't get to the internal web site, the internal ftp.
It CAN get to everyone else on the planet. If I watch the
lower left corner of the status bar in IE it appears that
it's skipping the internal dns and going straight to the
isp dns. I can see the external ip that it's trying to
connect to but since we're using the 192... internal net,
it doesn't connect.
IF, I go to the DNS tab of the TCP properties on the
workstation, and change anything, doesn't matter what as
long as it forces a SAVE, then all is well again.

It's only occasional but still annoying.

Any ideas, anyone? I'm fresh out.:-)

I'm thinking that it would be much more efficient for the internal DNS to
perform all resolutions.

You can add the name and IP to your local Host file on
your computer and it will go directly to the page, or on
your server's DNS make an A record entry with the name of
your internal site and it's IP. Hope this helps.

Thanks for responding Bob.

Using the ip works for the home page. But there are lot
of dynamic links that stop working using when I do that.
There is an A record. Been re-done, re-typed a dozen
times. Everything works great for everyone else. Just
the one workstation. And only occasionally.
