Win 2K Pro into Netgear RT314 into Bellsouth ADSL. No I-
Net access. Two other Computers using the Router with no
problems. Appears that this Computer is locked on an IP
that I can't clear.
IP Config: Connection Specific DNS Suffix: _____________
Autoconfiguration IP Address: 169.254.179.198
Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0
IP Config /Release: All Adapters Bound To DHCP Do Not Have
DHCP Addresses. The Addresses Were
Automatically Configured And Can Not
Be Released.
I believe this is why I can't resolve any IP address.
How do I clear this problem?
TIA
James

Since it is getting an APIPA number, I would first suspect a bad cable or
NIC.
You might first try giving it a static configuration to see if it works. If
that doesn't work try a new cable and NIC.

Or even check the NIC drivers as well.

Not sure as to how to set up a Static Configuration.
Already tried a different cable.

Go into your IP properties, and manually enter an IP address, subnet mask,
gateway and DNS address. Choose an IP that is on your subnet, but that is
not being used by any other machine.

To tell you exactly how, we'll need info about your network, such as your
current IP range, your subnet mask, what gateway address is being used, and
what DNS server is being used.

Are you running DHCP off your Netgear?
Is the Netgear running DHCP?
Is the Netgear running NAT?
Or are you getting an IP address from your DSL provider?

Also .. is the machine "shielded" by a local
packet filter ? If so, maybe the filter is stopping
DHCP traffic so the machine isn't able to obtain
valid DHCP network settings as needed
