Hi
Please can anyone tell me what kind of information is
held in a DNS server?
Thank you very much.

IP addresses of computers, sites, and service locations.
When you type a name into your browser, i.e.
www.example.com that name is
sent to a DNS server, the DNS server converts that name into and IP address
that is used to connect to the site you named in your browser.
DNS servers can also hold the addresses of the computers, sites, and service
locations on a local network as in the case of an Active Directory domain.
The Active Directory Domain Controller stores its servive locations in DNS,
too. So when you logon to an AD domain from a computer that looks in DNS for
the Domain Controller's records, such as Win2k, XP Pro and Windows Server
2003 they can find the DC.
