Does anyone have documentation on how to transfer DNS
zones from an NT4 machine to a Windows 2000 machine? Is
it possible?

Couple options - here are two:
1) Copy (or floppy) the *.dns files over to the w2k machine in the \dns dir
and create the primary zones using the option to select a file name - which
will be the file you just moved over.
2) Allow XFR on the NT4 zone(s). Create secondary zones on the w2k machine
and point to the NT4 IP. Verify the XFR. Promo the zones to primary or
ad-integrated.

No real documentation that I'm aware of from MS. There is a 3rd party tool:

Simple DNS Plus - Windows DNS Server Moving NT4 to W2k or W2k to W2k:
http://www.jhsoft.com/tutor/migrate.htm

However, the process is really simple if you only have a handful of zones.
Create the zone(s) on a W2k DNS (or W2k3 DNS for that matter), make them
secondary and tell it the Master IP is the NT4 machine. Allow the zones to
transfer, then change the zones to Primary. Done. Retire the NT4 DNS, since
assuming you're moving ahead, NT4 DNS does not support many new functions
that W2k or W2k3 does, such as AD support.

Hope that helped.
