I am having a wierd problem with DNS in Windows XP Pro SP1. If I set up
my network card to use DHCP and get the DNS server addresses
automatically, everything works fine. If I manually specify the DNS
servers (the same ip address that it gets automatically) then it doesn
not work and I get no DNS resolution. This is weird because it just
started happening suddenly. I had it setup with manually specified ip
address, and specified the DNS server addresses and it worked fine for
months, then one evening it stopped working, and I can only get it to
work by getting the address automatically now. other machines on teh
same network work fine manually specifying the DNS server addresses.

Hi,

I would do an 'IPCONFIG /ALL' when you get DHCP and copy
those settings excatly when specifying manually.

Also, use the NSLOOKUP utility to query your DNS server
(type ? at prompt ot get switches).

Tim

I did that. The DNS servers specified manually are exactly the same as
when gotten automatically. but won't work when specified manually.
