Hello,

I made a newbie mistake and need to no how to fix it.

I set up our W2K DNS server and setup the forwarding to our ISP's DNS
server just as I should however I screwed the pooch by having my ISP's DNS
server as the secondary server on all servers and work stations on my
network except for my DNS server.

I did not have any problems that is until I migrated our WIN NT4 Exchange
5.5 server to W2K EX2K.

I noticed yesterday that DNS started to get flakey and today it has stopped
resolving addresses altogether.

Any help you could give me to correct my stupiddddity would be most
appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Dungwalla

You shouldn't use your ISP's DNS in any position on any interface of any
member of your AD domain, period.
If your local DNS is not resolving names that is the issue to fix, but do
not use your ISP's DNS.
Do you have a forwarder configured for your DNS server?
Does it support recursion?

Kevin,

As I stated in the problem description Yes I do have forwarding set up
to my ISP's DNS servers, recursion is not disabled.

I know now it was a mistake to have my workstation and servers pointed
at the ISP... Live and learn.

What steps should I take to rectify the situation?

Remove your ISP's DNS from the servers and workstations.

Verify your ISP's DNS support recursive lookups.
