Dear Sir,

I need move the DNS server from NT 4.0 to win2000. How can
i do this? can i transfer the DNS entire directly? The DNS
server use for internal network only.

Many Thanks
John

There are a couple ways to do this. Probably the easiest is just look in
the ...\dns dir and see the zone files that end with <domain name>.dns .
You can copy these to floppy or copy these over to your new server. When
you create the new zone(s) with the same name, point to the respective file
and it will use that as input. Another way is to create secondary zone(s)
on new server and XFR the records over. When your happy, promote the zone
to primary and change the clients to point to this new dns server only.

If you have just a few zones, you just set up secondary zones on the Win2k
for the NT4 primary zones. If you have alot go here and download Dean Wells'
DNS dump.
