Hi,
Can anyone tell me if it is possible to set up a DNS server in windows
XP? I have found many howto's for win2000 and 2003 but nothing about xp.

If possible, I could use some help tracking down info on this or a
utility that makes it possible.

Please post back to this group so others can benefit as well.

Yes, it would be possible, but you need to find the DNS software. It is
not included in XP by Microsoft, but they do include it with their
server software. Use Google to find it (if it exists).

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

It would have to be a third party application.

Yes ... from a source other than from Microsoft. I wasn't clear with my
first post. Sorry.

Such software may exist. I don't know. It's easily available in most
Linux distributions (BIND).

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

There are 3rd solutions out there - easily found with Google. Not sure as to
hte quality of any of them. Also remember if you use XP and ICS you get a
DNS "proxy" service which resolves names on behalf of local network clients
and forwards queries.
