dns server error in Win2003

Hi.

We have a Win2003 DC in native mode which forwards DNS querries to a Unix
DNS server for addresses outside of our windows LAN. There was at least one
instance when a client PC could not locate a server through DNS from our
domain, which resides outside of our LAN but still within the university
campus.
The following error message is in the dns log:
The DNS server has encountered a critical error from the Active Directory.
Check that the Active Directory is functioning properly. The extended error
debug information (which may be empty) is "". The event data contains the
error.

What is the reason for this error and how can I fix it? I did not notice
any perticular problem with AD.

Let's see if this is a client problem or a server problem.
Are other clients with similar OS having the same problem?
Can this client having problem get to other similar
servers?
If other clients are having a problem accessing this
server then manually delete the DNS registration for that
server.
Use ipconfig /registerdns to bring it back.
Is it possible that the machine name is not a valid dns
name?

The server which the client failed to connect to is in an other domain and
the problem was solved by adding that domain name to the list on the
client's DNS config page.
I don't know what caused the error message I mentioned but I would like to
fix it. Otherwise DNS forwarding seems to be working to the UNIX DNS
server. I see no problem with our Active Directory either.
