DNS Server address won't go away.

I have a windows xp professional laptop. I changed the
ip address settings on the LAN conection and wireless
connection to reflect new external DNS servers. But the
computer is still somehow trying to use the old DNS
setting. I have checked that there is no Host or LMHost
settings, I uninstalled and reinstalled the network
adapters. I have rechecked multiple times that the old
DNS ip address is not listed on any network connection.
When I go to a command prompt and type nslookup
www.msn.com - I get a failure because it is trying to use
the old ip address. If I type nslookup www.msn.com
newipaddress it correctly returns the ipaddresses for msn.

I have looked at ipconfig /all - the new ip addresses for
DNS are listed and the old is not. I have run
ipconfig /dnsflush.

Where could windows xp be getting the old DNS ip address
from?

PS - I have rebooted between each change.

Looking forward to your assistance.

ipconfig /renew did not help.

the ipaddress lease is renewed. the dns is being set manually for the nic.
and none of the information for the nic or wireless nec includes the old DNS
server ip address. yet nslookup still tries to use the old dns.

somewhere windows xp must be caching the dns server ip address. I just can
not find any information to indicate how or where this is taking place.

Is there some sort of nefarious program running which behind the scenes
is messing with DNS settings? This would be a great way for a cracker
to compromise security. Checked with Antivirus software or looked for
other evidence?

what you explain is not how XP normally works.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.
