My hosts file stopped working yesterday in mid browse.
I'm running windows xp service pack 1 on a brand new
lattitude d800. I've got entries such as
192.168.0.14 moe.internal
192.168.0.14 ian.moe.rsn.internal
to get to servers on my local network.
As I understand it any changes to the hosts file should
be reflected immediately in the dns resolver cache but if
I flush the cache
ipconfig /flushdns
and then display it
ipconfig /displaydns
nothing's there. I've tried a hosts file in c:\I386 but
that didn't help.
Again my hosts file c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
just stopped working for no apparent reason and nothing I
do seems to make it get loaded.
Thanks!
Ian
