DNS Resolutions erased after restart. Is this normal?

Brent B

I have recently installed DNS Manager on our NT 4.0 server and pointing all
the client computers to the server for DNS resolution.

The two times I have restarted the NT server since this configuration, all
the DNS resolutions were erased as well as some of my settings (such as the
DNS Forwarders).

I have set the DNS Manager to load the settings from registry and all the
registry settings are correct.

Is there a way to save the DNS resolutions when the server is restarted?

Thanks
Brent

Brent,

This is not normal behavior. DNS should keep all configuration
information, and all records in the zones. The DNS server cache (where the
server caches responses of previous DNS queries successfully resolved) will
be cleared when the DNS service restarts (so if the machine reboots, the
service gets restarted.

Please make sure that your NT4 DNS server has SP6a installed and the
Security Rollup Package1. The simplest way to do this is to go to the
Windows Update site and install all Critical and Recommended updates.

Thanks!
