I am stumped.
I have a win2k AD running DNS. It is set up hosting
mygroup.mydomain.com. It is setup to Forward to out ISP's dns
servers.
We recently started hosting our domain by a thirdparty who wildcards
all addresses to our website address. Thats ok, I understand the
reasoning, but there is something screwy in the setup on the inside of
my network.

Now when I type in www.thiswontreolve.com, I get an answer back
resolving www.thiswontresolve.mydomain.com. = website address.

I have changed the settings in the clients DNS settings, but cant seem
to get it to stop appending mydomain.com to everything!
Driving me nuts!

When the DNS client tries to resolve a name, it will first send the query the exact query you gave it. In your case, www.thiswontresolve.com is sent to DNS. If
this fails, as in your case, the DNS client will append it's DNS suffix to the query and send it again. This time the query is
www.thiswontresolve.com.mydomain.com. Since your DNS server has a wildcard, all queries going to mydomain.com that don't have an exact match resolve
to the wildcard record, hence the behavior you are seeing.

Thank you,
