I get several DNS failures inthe event log. The simple DNS tests pased each time but the recursive tests fail. I try to ping the router and I can't. If I cange the IP address of this server then I can ping the router. I am figuring my DNS is hosed up and I should rebuild the DNS server. Could someone share how I an do this. Its a WK Server DC.

Thanks for your help.

This sounds more like a networking issue than a DNS issue. Maybe a IP
conflict?
Since changing the IP makes it work.
Are you using DHCP and do you have the IP of the server excluded?
If you can't ping the Gateway provided the gateway is pingable how is the
server going to know how to get out.
An ipconfig /all will help.

the ip address I am changing is the public ip addresses. i have a block of addresses. There is only devices using these addresses. The worksations and printers use a private Ip scheme. I have checked each of the Public ip addresses to ensure no duplicates and I have none. I am using DHCP but for private IPs.

The server is configured with one NIC using two IPs. One private and One Public.

You should either get a router or a second NIC the router is the best bet.
Setting a NIC up like this will give you very inconsistant results as you
have already found. I'll repeat this is a networking issue not a DNS issue.
