Windows 2000 Advanced Server with all the updates...
I have installed and enabled the DNS server on the Primary Domain
Controller. I have another server with two Ethernet cards, one of which is
on the LAN and one that connects to the Internet through a DSL modem. The
DSL modem has a DNS server inside.
I can't seem to figure out how to set up the primary and secondary DNS
addresses to allow all servers and workstation to access both the Internet
and the domain (AD). If I point the DNS to the DSL modem, no problem
accessing the Internet but there are problems for the servers to access the
domain. If I point to the PDC, then workstations can't access the Internet
(can't resolve names - they can still ping, etc.). I tried setting both
primary and secondary DNS addresses and the second never seems to do
anything.
I think I'd like to point all computers to the DNS server on the PDC and
then let it use recursion to go out for names not on the LAN and it would
eventually cache a lot of them. I read the recursion is enabled by default
and I have not checked the box to disable it. How can I configure the DNS
server then to go look at the DSL modem for names it doesn't have cached?
Thanks,
Bill
