Hi!

Excuse the lack of knowledge but here's the scenario:
I have 2 win2003 servers using dns in AD. I'd like to allow workstations to
connect to the internal intranet using a friendly 'http://ourweb' rather
than the 'norwich1.company.local' which we have to use at present (also the
server where the intranet resides may change in the future). I've tried
using the CNAME but this does not seem to work - is there a better way of
doing this as I'm lost to know where to go next!

any help appreciated!!!

Try WINS. Make sure that this name is in the hostheader for the website as
well.

what OS are the workstations & what are their DNS settings?

they should point to the AD DNS

you should have an "ourcompany" zone or folder and in it should be A
records for the hosts e.g.

kenny Host (A) 192.168.1.1
stan Host (A) 192.168.1.1
kyle Host (A) 192.168.1.1

//and if you need aliases - or cnames

www CNAME kenny.southpark.edu
ftp CNAME stan.southpark.edu

and so on
