As part of trying to solve an ADSL problem in a previous post the following
info may assist.

As the ADSL connection will not work I also have two dial up connections
configured:
Connection one is for the same ISP that provides the ADSL connection I am
having problems with
Connection two is for a totally different ISP

When I dial up using connection two I can do everything, browse, news etc
etc
When I dial up using connection one, I can only access the ISP's home page.
I am unable to access www.google.com, www.microsoft.com etc. When I try to
access www.google.com it then tries www.www.google.com then
www.google.com.edu etc etc as it tries all the different domains finally it
tries to access auto.search.msn.com without success.

To me this appears to be a DNS issue however I know this is not an ISP issue
as it's been a problem for the last week.

Any ideas ?

Thanks ACE

The machine is a Small Business Server 2000 (PDC)
The machine does run DNS.

Ace, thanks for your time and assistance.
I required the dial up working whilst I resolved issues with our adsl
connection however now the adsl problem has been fixed and the dial up is no
longer required..
Once the adsl connection started working the server have been logging event
in the application log relating to policies which I suspect may have been
corrupt etc and causing the problems all along, just a guess.

I have posted these problems in the group today.

Thanks once again.

Henry

Well, there's not enough information about your infrastructure, what type of
machine the connection is on (domain controller, member server, the NAT
server for the infrastructure, etc) to venture a guess here, so I'm going to
assume that you're not running DNS or AD internally, and it';s just a stand
alone machine. If this is the case, I would tend to think that it's in the
ADSL connection properties. Have you contacted your ISP about this?

How about this, provide an ipconfig /all (unedited) when connected to
connection1 and one for connection2 so we can compare what DNS servers are
being used for each connection.

Thanks for posting that info Henry. My first try would be to substitute the
or force the DNS settings to be the servers from the first connection that
does work. Go into it's properties, iP properties, and click the radio
button to use a specific DNS and type those in from the connection that
works.
