Ok, I'm not really sure if this is a DNS problem or not, so hopefully
someone can provide me some insight.

First, my setup is that I have a Win2k server with 2 nic cards. One
connects to the local LAN and the other connects to the internet. The
server is the DC and runs DNS and WINS.

The problem is that when I try to ping a local computer like comp1 it
resolves as comp1.mydomain.com and trys to go out to the internet in order
to reach that computer. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks!

Make sure the gateway on the internal nic is blanc.
Make sure that DNS on both internal and external nic points to your
server-IP.
Check the bindingorder (Network Connections, Advanced, advanced) and make
sure the internal nic is on top.
In DNS-server you enable the Forwarders and put the ISP-DNS-numbers in
there.
Are you using RRAS as well? In that case, make sure you've done the regedits
in 292822.

Ok, I think my problem is that I have the DNS numbers on the external card.
So the ISP DNS numbers need to go in the DNS server.
I am using RRAS.

Wow! That fixed all my problems and the network seems to be running a whole
lot faster! I really appreciate the help!

Great! Thanks for reporting back.
