I have been racking my brain for the last couple of days now with this
problem. I recently been in charge of configuring a network and its
servers along with it. Now one of the servers has been getting error
messages such as "Registration of the DNS record '_kpasswd._udp." as
far as i know the tech before me never resolved the issue. Now I
already demoted the AD using dcpromo and then reinstalling it but
still no luck. I really never worked with DNS servers before so I am a
newbie to say the least. I tried a install that
http://www.petri.co.il/install_and_configure_w2k_dns_server.htm showed
me too, but still no luck. Can someone please point in the right
direction?

Thank you

Make sure the DC uses its own private address (the IP assigned to the
private NIC) for DNS only. No loopback, no ISP's DNS, _only_ the IP of its
private NIC.
Then make sure all the clients are using _only_ the DCs private address for
DNS.

If this is already configured this way, post the ipconfig /all from the DC,
the name of your domain from AD Users & Computers, and the name of the AD
zone in DNS. We need this to verify the existence of a disjointed namespace.
A disjointed namespace exists when the Primary DNS suffix does not match the
AD domain name in AD User & Computers and the AD zone in DNS. All three must
match exactly.
