Hi
I have a problem with my DNS Server, The problem is I have
two DNS Servers in my Windows 2000 Domain, every thing was
working fine since evening but all of a sudden Internet
stopped working and when I am pinging any site for example
www.google.com it replies me un known host.

I have tested my DNS in monitoring TAB of its properties
it passes the general query but fails at recursive query.

Can any one help

Regards
Siddharth

Are you using forwarders? If you configured a forwarder or forwarders and
the forwarder is no longer working, you would have these symptoms.

It may just be the forwarder. Enable forwarding, and try this IP: 4.2.2.2.

When the recursion test fails, as Danny pointed out, that's due to not
having a forwarder.

If the problem persists, there are known viruses and trojans that can cause
similar issues. Suggest to update and run an antivirus scan and also run
Adaware to remove any undesireables installed on your system.

I am also having the same exact issue. I have 2 other
DNS server that replicate fine and the zone transfer
addresses are exactly the same. If you find out what the
problem is I would appreciate posting an answer here or
at least a direction. I have tried everything I can
think of except removing DNS and reinstalling it. Not
sure how that would affect the DC though? I even
transferred the root hints from a working server.
