We have been testing a new domain server for a few weeks
now. The domain name is company.org and our external
website which is hosted by another company is
company.org. When signed into the domain we are unable to
reach our website. It will act like the site does not
exist and will use the msn search feature. Any help is
appreciated.

In your internal Forward lookup zone for company.org create a new host named
www pointing to the public IP of the website.
If you want to access your website by just company.org, it requires a blank
host pointing to the IP of the website. This will be a problem because DCs
create blank hosts for all their addresses, these blank records are used to
apply and propogate Group policies, you can stop the creation of these
records, but it will cause problems with your group policies. IMO it is
better to run IIS on your DCs and use web site redirection to
www.company.org which will resolve correctly if you create the www record.

Hi I just read your responce to the problem I haev to say
I am rather new to setting up Domain Name Servers myself
aswell, but I was wonderinf if you could go into you're
explanation a bit more indeepth, I understand the idea of
making another forward for "www.domainname.org" and I set
the name server to the right IP address but I was
wondering if I had skiped a step or had done something
wrong becuase I have not resolved my problem but I am sure
you are on the right track.

thank you

Do this: Use the DNS snap-in, expand the server, then expand forward Lookup
Zones, then click on the zone for domainname.org. Then in the menu click
Action, then new host, give it the name "www" (without the quotes) and the
IP address of your public web site. Done!
