DNS on a child domain

I have a parent domain and a child domain here and only the parent domain is
running DNS. I plan to add DNS to the child servers. I planned on using
document 255248 since the child domain is in place all I should have to do is
add DNS to the two child domain's DC's and point everyones DNS to the child
domains DNS since that is where all the resources are correct?

I hope this makes sense.

Thanks

You have to create the zone for the child domain on the child DNS servers.

This is Windows 2000, correct?
If it is, you will also need to either forward from the child to the parent,
or create a secondary zone of the parent (Forest root) domain.

Yes it is a Windows 2000 domain controller, thanks I will set up the
forwarders to the parent domain.

Thanks

If you use a forwarder from the child to the parent, check the box "Do not
use recursion" (Forwarders tab)
This forces the child DNS to use the forwarder and not root hints.

Thank you, I will do that.
