dns not working

simple problem that i hope i can get help with here.
In lamens terms my web page pops up when type in the ip address to the
site. But when i type in the url it is just a blank page. Now this only
happens when i am at my home computer.Off site (anywhere) the url works
fine.

Any thoughts.

Much appreciated to any help.
 
First thing you need to do is test resolution from home and from non-home.
From the command line on your off-site compter, type:
nslookup <yourURL>
Click to expand...
and note the IP address it resolves to. Do the same thing at home and see
what you get.

You did not provide adequate info to diagnose this.

Where is the web server? At home or somewhere else on the Internet? Is it a
public website or an internal website you are just testing? If testing, did
you configure the hostheader properly to match the FQDN?

If it is at home, and it has a private IP address in your internal LAN,
assuming the extrernal DNS is pointing to your router/NAT's external public
WAN IP, then in your own internal DNS server you would need to create a www
record and provide the internal private IP. This is because the router/NAT
will not do a "u-turn" for internal requests to the outside IP and back in
again.

If it is out at your ISP's, then I would look at what IP is set for the
webpage.

As far as the hostheader issue, well, you'll need to provide alot more
specific info.
