A WinXP Pro machine was brought to be FULL of AdWares.
After removing them all, it can't resolve DNS anymore. I
can ping all around, in and out, as long as I use
xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx adresses.
We use hardcoded IP adresses for DNSs, and they work fine
for the other machines on our net.
I thought I knew how DNS resolution worked, that Ping.exe
(or any app looking for an IP adress) sent an URL out to
a DNS server that "simply" gave back an IP adress. Now,
I'm starting to believe it is NOT quite that
straightforward.
The most probable cause, here, would be a registry
entry "Modified" by an AdWare, then deleted instead of
reverted to it's default value.
Help!!!
thx, Carmin T.
