DNS names going back to wrong IP address

My DNS databases keep replacing the IP addresses of the
old subnet that the workstations were configured on. I've
have none an ipconfig /release + renew + registerdns. It
will show updated in the DNS database with the correct IP
address for that subnet. The next morning it's back to the
old subnet address. I've have used the flushdns command
with the same results. What's up?

So I take it you only have one DHCP server on your network? And one scope in
DHCP?

What type of zone are you using in DNS?
If it is standard primary try deleting the zonename.dns file in the
WINNT\system32\dns\backup folder and restart DNS.

2 DHCP servers 1 Zone and 12 subsets

I guess both DHCP servers are serving out the same subnet then?

Did you try deleting the dns file in the backup folder?
Or at least looking at it to verify it did not have the old records in it?

It had no records and a wrong IP address for the DNS
server. I deleted it and restarted the service. I will try
the renew ipconfig again and see if it sticks.

Hope it works keep us informed if it fixes it.

Check the reverse lookup zones, sometimes the host record will update but
the ptr record will not.

It is still showing the wrong IPs. Where is it picking up
the old names and addresses?

Check your DHCP servers to see if one of them has the old Scope still
active.

Checked the DHCP servers, all the scopes are showing the
correct server IP addresses.

Hi All,

Found the problem. The settings were to ALL IP Address,
not the two DCs. Updates were also looking at all IPs.
Changed everything to look at the 2 DCs, problem solved.
