DNS name structure

In my cached DNS server, those .jp .fr or .com are those considered
2nd level domain name ? Aren't those are the top level domain name
while mydomain.com 'mydomain' considered 2nd level ? Pls advise

ms.com. is second-level domain name. com. is first level and root is just
root or zero level to carry it out.

No, of course not. Those domain names have one label (excluding the null
label that denotes the root), and are thus top-level domain names. A
second-level domain name has two labels (excluding the root).
