DNS Name Resolution

Guest

I can resolve server or website by I.P. and not by name. I confirmed that
this is not a network problem - it is local to the PC. I tried with a static
and and dynamic IP same problem. I have correct DNS entries. Same settings
work on another PC. This is a bizzare problem.
I think my TCP/IP may be corrupt.
Pease advise.
Thanks
Frank

Frank,

DNS resolution is affected by the LSP / Winsock subsystem.

Give LSP-Fix and WinsockXPFix <http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm>, or WinsockFix
<http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=257> a shot.

If XP SP2, Start - Run - "cmd". Type "netsh winsock reset catalog" into the
command window.

If no help yet, reset TCP/IP.

Start - Run - "cmd". Type "netsh int ip reset c:\netsh.txt" into the command
window.

Paranoia comes from experience - and is not necessarily a bad thing.

Chuck, Thanks alot for you help!
I think it was reinstalling TCP/IP that done the trick.

Frank,

would you mind explaining briefly how you reinstalled TCP/IP?
Just for the sake of the next ones who have the same problem.

I hope you're still visiting this newsgroup.
