Hi

Our domain name for the company, registered on the internet is: domain.co.u

domain.co.uk typed into I.E. gets you our web page

How do i properly configure this name in DNS? Its not like .com or .org etc, as it takes an extra level

For instance

[1]
[2] u
[3] c
[4] stirtec

Will that work when configured that way? Our existing server was running NT 4.0 and SBS

I creating a new 2000 server PDC and want to get it right

Thanks

Regard

Chris White.

Create a forward lookup zone name "stirtech.co.uk" then in that zone create
a new host leave the name field blank, click OK to create the record anyway
when it barks at you saying (same as parent folder) is not a valid host
name.

On a side note, I highly suggest that you name the Active Directory domain a
different name, something like "lan.stirtech.co.uk" or
"stirtech.co.uk.local" because in the AD domain the record that ther domain
name resolves to must resolve to the IP on the domain controllers that has
file sharing enabled. This is so Group Plocies can be applied from the DFS
share at \\lan.stirtech.co.uk\sysvol\lan.stirtech.co.uk\policies
