DNS Missing on second DC

We are trying to DCPROMO a DC that is also running Exchange 5.5 into an AS.
We have a second DC that is set up and running that will become the "first"
DC. After that, we will install another DC to be the"backup". I was checking
DNS settings on the new DC when I found that it doesn't have DNS installed.

I assume that I need to install DNS on the second DC before I Transfer the
FSMOs and DCPROMO the original DC. Are there any "gotchas"? Or do I just
install DNS? We have AD running in the Domain.

You don't "have" to install a DNS server, you only need one on the network
that supports dynamic updates. Your questions are very confusing. A DC can't
be promoted, it can only be demoted. Only a member server can be promoted.
