I have a win2000 server running DNS with forword lookup
enabled. The problem I have is that the local domain is
the same as public domain & DNS clients are not able to
view my public domain. How can I enable the workstations
to see the public domain?

The worst thing you can do is put the public DNS server in TCP/IP
properties.
What you are supposed to do is create the missing records in the internal
Forward lookup zone for the domain. These are records named www, mail, ftp
and the like, then give them their respective IP addresses.

On your internal DNS server open your forward lookup zone, then in the
Action menu click new host, name it www, mail, ftp or what ever you need
then give the record their respective IP address for the site.

Public domain meaning -

you have a publicly hosted website? If so, in your DNS server, add a new
host called www that points to your website's public IP address.

you have a publicly hosted mail server for your domain? if so, create a new
host called pop (or whatever you want) that points to your POP server's IP
address - you can create one for your SMTP server too.
