Good day all,
i am not too familiar with win2000 DNS and i have to upgrade to win2k
domain. i have an NT4 PDC and BDC and i want to make the switch to win2k. i
know that for a AD domain we absolutly need DNS. i've decided to install DNS
on one of my win2k machine and point to once the upgrade to AD is underway.
1- is this a sane solution?
2- i've noticed that the newly formed DNS server has changed domain from
what it used to be (lets call it domain1) to the name of the zone (lets call
it AAA.com) is this normal?
3- i've created a Standard Primary zone. do i have to change it to Active
Directory-Integrated once the AD is installed?

please note that this server is completely expandable so i have no worries
and no problems nuking it.

thanks

Yes.

You will want to avoid at all costs naming your domain with a single label
(domain1). This will lead to problems down the road. You should have your
naming info set before starting this. You can name it domain1.com or
domain1.loc.

Directory-Integrated once the AD is installed?

Not necessarily. AD Integrated DNS is just another way to replicate DNS
information. AD Integrated DNS is replicated during the regular domain
replication. No special replication just for DNS info. It is also more
secure than "primary - secondary" DNS replication.
The fact that the DNS information gets replicated along with the domain
replication, if you take into account that domain replication only gets
replicated between DCs, it only follows that with AD integrated DNS the DNS
information gets replicated to all DCs with DNS installed.
