Is there a way to add a host record to a local machine without using a DNS
server? I need to resolve a name without querying our DNS Server

Hi Keht,

Thee sure is. Just open Windows Explorer and go to the
WINNT\System32\Drivers\ETC folder. In here you will find the Host file, open
it with Notepad and then add the record you want in the following format.
FQDN of the Server to the IP address;

Server.domain.com 10.10.10.10

Hope this helps,

Hosts file?

If you add the entry to the Hosts file in

%systemroot%\system32\drivers\etc

(Note, there is NO extension on the "hosts" file so be careful
when saving with the common editors that like to append .TXT)
