i've a xp machine, and the \sysmte32\drivers\etc\host file is filled
with some entries
ipaddress
www.abc.com
When i attempt to run
www.abc.com from IE, it cannot resolves giving
dns error. But using ip address, it is able to resolves.
When this host file is applied to other xp machines, IE can resolves
dns names.
What went wrong ?
Delete ALL the entries except the two local loopback entries. Save the file.
Then go into it's properties and force it to Read ONly, and try it again.
Obviously you have some sort of either spyware or virus that took over your
HOSTS file. More than likely spyware.
