When I open the first time IExplorer, I get "Cannot Find Server or DNS
Error" after the second try, (5 seconds later) I am able to get my home page.
My OS is WindowsXP Home Edition, I am using a router, and Local Area
Connection only.

Sorry-just frustrated. Having the same problem plus other pages have to be
reloaded. I noticed this right after SP2 was installed. I have XP Pro.

Suz-Anne: I hope somebody can help me !!!!!! did you try something to fix
this problem. Let me know please.

I doubt anyone is going to help on a holiday weekend.

I've been reading up on SP2 in an attempt to uninstall it, doesn't seem
possible. Also seriously considering going back to Windows 2000.

I'm thinking it might be a conflict with the firewal that comes with my
server, so I'm going to uninstall that and see what happens.

Hi Donaldo :-)

There are several things that can cause this error, but, you might try the
following and see if it helps:

Can't display page (Server or DNS error) or "Internet Explorer could not
open the search page"
http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/answers.htm#dns

Adjust Windows XP DNS Cache Settings
http://www.helpwithwindows.com/WindowsXP/tune-24.html

also...

Installing SP2 can cause some types of parasites, spyware, malware and other
scumware that was able to remain hidden before, so it is very possible that
you may have a hijacker, malware, spyware or parasites on your system
causing this problem. Thus, in addition to running your updated anti-virus
program, you should do the following to be sure none of these are present on
your system. Although you may have already run one or more of the programs,
please do so again according to the instructions below. Some variants of
malware can replicate themselves over and over if not removed properly.
Please follow all instructions carefully to be sure your system is
thoroughly cleaned:

Dealing with Unwanted Spyware and Parasites:
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm
Be sure to run CWShredder, Ad-aware and Spybot.
If these steps do not resolve your problem, please post back to this thread
with the details and any error messages.
(or Spybot - Search and Destroy DSO Exploit Fix 1.3.1 TX)

Also be sure to use the HijackThis. Please do not post your log to this
newsgroup, but to the HiJackThis Support Forum
http://www.hijackthis.de/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=10&guestlanguageid=4
or the Aumha HiJackThis forums
http://forum.aumha.org/viewforum.php?f=30
to allow the experts there to evaluate your log and advise you of the
necessary steps to clean your system.

Also this program searches for hidden .dlls that recreate the malware.

CAUTION!!!!! Before you try to remove spyware using any of the programs
below, download a copy of LSPFIX from any of the following sites:

http://www.spychecker.com/program/winsockxpfix.html
(if your OS is Win2k or XP) The process of removing certain malware may kill
your internet connection. If this should occur, this program, LSPFIX, will
enable you to regain your connection.

You might also want to get Art's updater, SYS-UP.Zip, here for future
updating of these: http://home.epix.net/~artnpeg/.
(If you download and use the updater from the beginning, it will
automatically handle downloading the other files. Place them in a dedicated
folder after appropriate unzipping, and then run. This scan may take a long
time, as Sysclean is VERY extensive and thorough

and......

NOTE: If you can not download these programs from the Internet, if your PC
has CD read capabilities, go to another computer with CD-ROM burning
capabilities. Create a folder on the hard drive of the other computer called
HOLD, download the programs to that folder, then burn that folder to a CD.
Copy the HOLD folder to your HD and then install the programs from there
and run them. After you have IE access again, update all programs where
possible to get the latest definitions and run them again in Safe Mode to be
sure there are no lingering items on the system.

Hi Suz-Anne :-)

Yes, there are lots of folks here who don't share the US holidays, and vise
versa, but, there is someone, usually several, manning the crows nest at all
times. It helps us make a faster determination of the resolution if there
is information presented by the poster, and 'ME TOO' type posts are very
hard to follow for everyone.

And, yes, the informtaion I presented for Donald will work for your problem
too. :-)

Now, as for uninstalling SP2....

THANKS! Jan:- I dit try all this out, and the problem still there. I think
I explained that it happen the first time I start IE, also other pages have
to be reloaded. I haven't installed SP2, Zus-Anne has the same problem with
SP2 installed. Jan I connect trought a router, and in the network
connections I have only Local Area Connection, Enabled, Firewalled. I didn't
try other browser to see if the same happen. I am loyalty to IE.

Hi Donaldo :-)

I'm not really sure what is happening here, but, try the following and see
what happens:

Open IE and go to Tools\Internet Options\Connections - click on the LAN
Settings and be sure the Proxy server box is UNchecked.

Go Open an ms-dos prompt window (Start>Run>) and type the following (one
entry
at a time), and press enter after each line. A message will appear stating
that these have been registered successfully.

regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 Shell32.dll (this command only for Win2000 and XP)
regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
regsvr32 Actxprxy.dll
regsvr32 Mshtml.dll
regsvr32 Urlmon.dll

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=306831
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;27655

and......IE Won't Browse

Run LSP-Fix - a free program to repair damaged Winsock 2 stacks

The Winsock repair tool is often recommended for XP
http://members.shaw.ca/techcd/WinsockXPFix.exe
and WinSockFix

also.......

If you have Zone Alarm, open the Programs tab on Zonealarm and see if it is
giving Internet access to Internet Explorer.

Check your firewall. What AV do you have? If Norton, Uninstall it and see
if that helps.

What is your homepage set to in IE ?

Go to Start>Run and type in sfc /scannow, see if it indicates any errors.
If so, right them down exactly as they are listed.

If these do not work, then I suggest that you repair your IE XP:
