First thank you for your time. Next, Here is what I have;
PC runnning Win2K pro. MSIE6.0 SP1, I can not browse the
internet but I can ping both a web sites ip address and
its URL and get four successful replies. What is up? I
have looked all over the knowledge base and used every
combination of descriptions I can think of. The closest
thing that I come up with refers to uninstalling and
reinstalling tcp/ip but that is for WIN98 etc. Not NT.

Please help if you can. I would be greatful for any
insight.

Thanks,

JG

If your PC is just a standalone, not a part of a windows
network, you might right click on network neighborhood,
click properties, then right click on your network
connection. Select TCP/IP and click properties, you might
want to make sure your settings are obtain ip address
automatically, and a DNS server automatically. Most ISPs
operate this way; that is they use DHCP instead of static
IP addresses. You might also click Start > RUN type cmd
press enter. Then type IPCONFIG /FLUSHDNS press enter.
Hope this helps.

If all else fails try instaling netscape (or ony other browser) and
see if your can browse the net. If that works, un-re-install internet
explorer.

Just a thought...

I tried both Mozilla and Netscape neither produced any
better results. I finally rectified the problem by
running an over the top reinstall of Win2k. While I am
going to have to reinstall most of my programs It kept me
from having to do a total overhaul. I beleive now that
the problem was caused by corruption to the winsock and
related files in windows after a virus/spyware wqqs
removed by my virus scan. I don't know at this point what
virus but it looks like it was the "fizzer" worm.

Thanks every one for your insight and help.
