I am using XP Pro. The computer shows a connection to our hardwired network
internet and also through our wireless network, but won't display any
internet pages. Keeps showing the DNS Error page. It continues to use the
default 169. IP address also.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

Which connection do you want it to use the wireless or the
hardwired network? Disable the one you don't want to use.

To build on what gls858 wrote, usually when a network adapter is using the
default 169.254 IP address it means that it has NOT been either given a
static IP address or given a dynamic IP address via the router's DHCP
functionality. Which leads me to several questions: What type of router is
your hard-wired network using? What type of router is your wireless network
using? Are your client computers given static IP addresses or dynamic ones
via the router? Has your setup ever worked?

the hardwired network:
This computer is part of a high school computer lab--our network is a part
of a University's network so I don't have much information about their
equipment. I do know that I have 2 other Windows XP machines that work well
on this network.

the wireless network:
We have our own wireless network which is using a Belkin 802.11g 54Mbps
router. Again, I have another Windows XP machine that works well on this
network.

I don't know if this machine has ever worked on the network--hasn't since I
started. I know that in both networks--the computers use dynamic addresses.
