DNS DUN problem, any way of setting DNS server in registry or as env variable?

Hi all,

Currently my company uses a product called the IPass
dialer, which is a Dialup internet client which can be
used in any country throughout the world. We are having a
dns issue as when the IPass dialer connects it creates a
new DUN connection each time as it updates the phonebook
and also needs to use dhcp to connect to the internet. The
main issue we have is that we need to set DNS server
address and suffix in the dial up connection, but as it
creates a new one each time, it deletes all entries for
DNS and the suffix. At the moment the only workaround we
have is that we have the hosts file updated with all our
server names in it. The main question i am asking is .....

1. Is it possible to set a DNS server address in the
registry which cannot be overwritten.
2. Is it possible to set an environment variable for a DNS
server and suffix.

I have also tried different Group policies to stop the
deletion of DUN connections but this does not work. All
help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Daniel,
Unfortunatley from a Windows standpoint there isn't alot you can do. The
dialer is programatically changing that information. Setting policies on
DUN isn't going to work because these policies are specific the MS DUN
Connections and not other vendors unless they have created it to do so and
use policies. Maybe someone else will have the answer for this one who
also uses that product.

Good Luck!
