I am working on a problem where the DNS service intermittently crashes on
multiple Windows 2003 domain controllers. You can start the DNS service
after it crashes and everything appears to function normally.

The event log messages go like this:
Event ID 7034: DNS Server service terminated unexpectedly.

At the same time this Application error comes up:

Event ID 1000

Faulting application dns.exe, version 5.2.3790.0, faulting module
msvcrt.dll, version 7.0.3790.0, fault address 0x000351e4

Then either before or after the DNS service is started again (it varies
every time), the following informational message is generated:

Event ID 1004

Reporting queued error: faulting application dns.exe, version 5.2.3790.0,
faulting module msvcrt.dll, version 7.0.3790.0, fault address 0x000351e4

Any ideas?

Thanks!

I would first look for a DNS loop caused by two or more DNS servers
forwarding to each other.
