I am at my wits end, I posted here last week I got a good
response, however the issue I was having corrected itself?
Here is what I posted last week, and then below further
details:

my company has registered domain, name server is our
server and secondary is our tech provider (not ISP). DNS
has been running for over a year - no issues at all to
this point. Our web server (sits on DMZ) is Primary DNS
with our Tech Provider as secondary (Zone change Notify is
configured pointing to their servers) 3 weeks ago we
started hosting our own website. In DNS I specified A host
record and configured the IIS. Everything came up and
running like it's supposed when configured correctly.

Here is what's going on; starting last week our website
went down (page would not be displayed), in your browser
you would get "domain not found" I did nslookup (using our dns server) and
domain points to the correct IP. Then magically website
came back up within minutes. yesterday same thing
happened, but this time it was down for about 2 hours, I
checked IIS - ok - last night it was fine, then this
morning we are down again using domain name.

If you enter our public IP - site comes up - we have OWA
running fine using domain name (Exchange server running on
a different 2000 advanced server). nslookup again points
to the right ip, our DNS configuration has not been
changed.. I have rebooted server, restarted IIS. (I don't
think it is IIS issue) and it has not helped. When I ping
our domain it does not time out, it simply says: "Ping
request could not find host "www.ourname.com" Please check
the name and try again". Again Ping to our public IP
replys.

We have our domain registered with networksolutions..
could this be an issue on their end.. or what am I missing
here?

I have the latest SPs on our server

I hope someone here can help me head in the right
direction, hope this makes sense

BTW.. this is a 2000 server we are dealing with

Here is what I have done this time:

when I do nslookup specifying our DNS server -
www.ourdomain.com points to the correct IP. When I specify
any server outside of our domain.. "the domain is not
found" message.
I am starting to think that our Tech provider is the issue
here. When I run dns report (SOA) on www.ourdomain.com
there is a difference between my name server and their
name server dns version being reported. (we have 2 name
servers specified - ours and tech provider) What is the
easiest way for me to troubleshoot this issue. Any insight
is greatly appreciated.

In your statement "we have two nameservers specified"
Where are these name servers specified?

Do you have an Active Directory domain? What is the name of your Active
Directory domain.
You may be thinking what is the relavance of this question, but it is very
relevant. Especially if your AD domain name is 'ourdomain.com'

This would be much easier to diagnose if you would give us your actual
domain name. If you are afraid of posting correct information because of
security issues, then it makes it almost impossible to diagnose. It only
gives you a false sense of security, because posting incorrect information
does not make you anymore secure. There are programs running out there that
scan IP addresses for services running on them, if you have a security issue
they will find you, regardless of what you post here. The biggest problem
you might get here is if you post your email address without munging it.

Kevin, I emailed you with my response. Hope to hear from
you, thank you for your help
