For the public zone keep it where ever it is for best results.
If you are going to have local access to the server behind an NAT device,
you will need a local DNS server, with the record for its website using the
private address of the website.
If you are only going to host the website locally. I would suggest that you
name the zone "
www.domain.com" then in that zone place one host, leave the
name field blank, then give it the local IP of the website. It will bark at
you and say that (same as parent folder) is not a valid host name, click OK
to create the record anyway.
The reason I recommend using the zone name "
www.domain.com" is that this
name will not conflict with other records in the "domain.com" public zone
that are hosted elsewhere. If you do name the zone "domain.com" you will
have to add other records like mail, ftp or whatever for names that are not
hosted locally.
