DNS Cleanup

We are using Windows 2000 servers and clients in an Active Directory environment. Machines are routinely re-imaged and things are always changing. Our machines DO auto-register in DNS based on their domain membership. However, once these records exist they never go away. So, we are accumulating records over time. In fact, we have machines that no longer exist, but do ping because another workstation has picked up an expired DHCP address and is actually the one answering.

So, I'd like to know if there is a way to set expirations on these auto-registered DNS entries?

And, on a similiar topic, what is the best way to identify and cleanup workstation objects in AD for machines that no longer exist, but did not remove (disjoin) properly (assuming these were not deleted manually at that time)?

Thank-you.

Hi,

You should enable the Aging and Scavenging feature.
