I'm trying to clear the DNS cache on my XP Pro box but I
receive the error message: 'cannot flush dns resolver
cache. Function failed during execution'. This problem
occurs whether I use the repair connection utility or
from the command line (ipconfig /flushdns). The DNS
service is off on the machine. Are there any hooks in the
registry or other services that I need to disable in
order to clear the cache? Thanks for your help.

I've not tested this, but...

I think that the DNS client service maintains the DNS cache.
So if the DNS service is off, then you will get the errors you see.

With the DNS service off, there _is_ no cache to clear.
