Each time I boot up my machine, I get this error:

DNS Cache Failed
Could not connect to UDP Socket - error 10048

The machine still goes online, but every 10 or so minutes
it seems to force my router to restart (losing connection
for a moment). This connection loss does not happen when
I am directly connected to the DSL modem, but I wish to
use my router.

If the machine is off my other computer has no isses with
the router - the connection stays stable - so something
from this machine is messing up my router connection (and
the error is annoying as he**).

Anyone with any ideas? Help!

I checked the Microsoft web site at this address:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?
url=/library/en-
us/winsock/winsock/windows_sockets_error_codes_2.asp

The error code you included in your message indicates that
the IP address you are trying to use ia lready in use. I
would suggest checking under Network Connections in
Control Panel to see if an IP address has been entered. If
so, note the number that is there and then change the last
of the four numbers under IP address and see whether the
problem persists.
