Is it allowed to have DNS starting with a numeric
character? Is this a limitation or is there workaround?

DNS what?

A DNS resource record name can begin with a numeric character but
it is GENERALLY a bad idea for ordinary host names.

Reverse records (PTR) do this by their nature; RBL (blackhole) names also
do this commonly but these are not used as real "Names" of machines.
