Hi,
I have windows server 2003, sql 2000, office 2003 running
on one server. i always keep my machine on and last week
i couldn't see anything in the monitor and restarted the
machine. it booted but nothing came up one the screen.
Sometimes it halt saying "checking nvram" but most of the
time it goes beyond that screen and then nothing come up.

if i shutdown machine for 10-15 mins then i can go to
desktop but it used to halt everytime. finally i opened
the machine and the hd cable was bent badly so i fixed. i
thought my hard drive was crashed that's why it can't
bootup or hang up when i go to desktop. now when i fixed
cable it bootup and worked like almost an hour so i
thought it wasn't a hard drive. Then i was working with
DNS server and as I configure as root server, the machine
halted again. now i don't think so because of dns server
but i have no idea. i restarted again and now it can boot
but doesn't come anything in the screen. it passes the
regular boot screen and say Floppy drive NOT FOUND, cd
ROM found and IDE 0 not found. Now sometimes work and
most of the times doesn't work and gets hanged up. what
could be the probelm? Hard Drive, mother board, hd cable?

please help.

This is certainly not DNS, other that what you mentioned could be a simple
CPU Fan.

That means do i need to buy new cpu or cpu fan?
I was thinking to format the hard drive and reinstall
everything again. does it make any sense?

I do not know, but CPU fans are cheap. Does your motherboard have a hardware
monitor?
What makes me thing CPU fan is this:
if i shutdown machine for 10-15 mins then i can go to
desktop but it used to halt everytime.

That tells me something is hot and a good cooling off period makes it go,
and I can guarantee, if the CPU gets hot it will do just as you describe.

well,
In my company all the servers are running 24X7 they don't
get that problem. But my server was on for one month and
got this problem. Any way right now i have shut off my
machine and i will check it tomorrow to see how it goes.

Thanks.

I agree this is not a DNS question.

If it comes up saying HD not found, how can you re-format and reinstall on a
HD that is not found?

I would suggest to check the cables for your IDE drives and floppy, go into
the BIOS and check and make sure the IDE controllers are enabled, etc. I do
not believe it's a harddrive issue from what you;re saying. This is hardware
troubleshooting at the basics here and I believe it points to a motherboard
issue. If you had a power surge, it *may* have altered the BIOS settings or
even fried the IDE controllers.

Was this server put together by you or was it a purchased machine and if so,
do you have hardware tech support or a warranty on it?
