DNS and A.D.

We just set up A.D on our network. Currently on a D.C we
have DNS on it with it being A.D. integrated. Now we have
setup multiple D.C. and I want to setup DNS on them. How
do I go about setting up DNS on the other D.C? Is it the
same as setting up a primary and secondary DNS server,
where I have to allow zone transfers or does DNS replicate
along with A.D? I have added the DNS components to a D.C.,
but I no forward or reverse zones have been created. Do I
have to create the zones on the new DNS servers and then
it populates the zone or should the zones automatically be
added when I add the DNS components?

Thanks in advance,

Joe

Hi Joe,

Active Directory Integrated Zones will automatically appear on the other DNS-
Servers if they are within the replication scope (but it might take some time
to see that).

In Windows 2000 there's just one replication scope: All Active Directory DCs of
the Domain.

In Windows Server 2003 you have additional options of:
- All DNS-Servers in the Active Directory domain (= within Domain and Server is
DC & DNS)
- All DNS-Servers in the Active Directory forest (= all DCs in the Forest which
are also DNS-Server).
- Custom: you are able to create your own Application Partition, define it's
replication scope, and store the DNS-Zone in there.

Gruesse - Sincerely,

Ulf B. Simon-Weidner
