I recently installed broadband internet across my LAN. The
broadband router is connected to the LAN router and
assigned a static IP (192.168.0.254). The broadband router
controls access and provides the firewall.

I am having problems with DNS however. I need the clients
to use the server machine (192.168.0.1) as the name server
otherwise active directory resources won't function
correctly. However setting 192.168.0.1 as the DNS means
the computers can't resolve names outside the local
network and hence cannot use the internet.

How can I configure DNS on the server machine to handle
requests by referencing from my broadband router? Thanks
alot, aaron.

Hi Aaron

In the DNS configuration of the server you need to setup
a forwarder that points to your external dns server.
Forwarders are found in DNS configuration in the
properties of the server. You will notice that the
forwarders option is greyed out. Delete the root "."
domain and the option will become available.

Hope this helps

Hi Scott,

Just wanted to add, here's a link to help him with these tasks (To configure
a forwarder and to how to delete the Root zone if the Forwarding option is
grayed out), in case he's not sure of how to do it:
