I'm a backup admin for a small software company. I am considering dumping
all our DAT tapes and using cheaper and faster IDE hard drives only. We use
BrightStor. Anyone have any thoughts pro or con on this?

While tape can be a pain, think about retention and offsite storage.
How long do you store backups and where do you store them? The
economics of storage media depend heavily on how often you recycle the
media.

Also, will a full backup fit on one disk? one tape?

Check whether the BU software supports disk devices as fully as tape -
labeling and prompting for next tape/disk; encrypting/passwording data,
etc.
