Whenever I boot my computer I get a message that says "Windows cannot find
C\Windows\dllreg.exe..." followed by a line or so of instructions. A search
of the C disk does not turn up any file by this name. There are a couple of
glitches in how my computer works which I think may (or may not) be related
to this file not being there. How do I locate a copy of this file and
install it where it is suppose to go.

First of all, thanks for responding.
looks to me like you have been infected with the W32/Dumaru.a@MM worm and
need to do a complete virus scan.

Yes. I was. (It suprised me that you would know that). My PC-cillin
program picked it up, and I deleted the infected files. Not sure whether I
should have. Then I re-loaded my Windows program. Most of the things
worked OK after that and the scans did not indicated any virus was left. But
a few things didn't work, and I kept getting that message. Using the
information you gave me I downloaded that "stinger" program. It does not
indicate that I have any residual viruses. Whether it can repair files I
have deleted, I don't know. So I'll just reboot and see what happens.

This is the first time I have tried to use this newsgroup system. Hope I'm
doing it right.

Thanks again.

Jim

Jim, usually the files that get deleted in this kind of cleanup are parts
of the virus, worm, whatever. There is usually more cleanup to be done than
just deleting files. The "missing files" messages are caused by references
the worm planted - usually in the registry. Check out the references that
Haus supplied. They will lead you to the pages at McAfee's website that
outline the additional cleanup steps that you must perform manually. Once
those are done, your missing file messages will be gone.
